Meet Louise McLean of Atlantic Craft NI

basket maker Designer-Makers louise mclean

From glass-painting for President Mary McAleese to creating a three-foot willow candleholder for ITV’s This Morning programme and working on a willow arch for the Queen’s Jubilee, Lousie McLean is surely an inspiration to crafters everywhere and we are just delighted to have her as our artist in residence at The Designerie in Bushmills.

Louise specialises metal-craft, needle-craft, basketry and wood-carving,specifically – willow. In 2005, Louise entered ITV’s Britain’s Craftiest competition, which she won, and since then, has seen Atlantic Craft NI, which she runs with her husband, Trevor, thrive.

She has been a finalist in the RTE Craft Master TV series, worked on the Queen’s Jubilee willow arch and in 2014, exhibited and sold work in New York. Louise teaches a variety of workshops at The Designerie which are a sell out success!

With continued input from Causeway Enterprise Agency over the years in marketing and business support, Louise says: “Social networking is now my biggest marketing tool, generating 90% of my business!”
