Maker Spotlight : Linen Lane
Welcome to Small Business Saturday, a feature where we celebrate our community of makers from across the North and South of Ireland.
Located in our first pod of Makers house is Jill of Linen Lane.
Jill has been part of Makers House since it opened in August 2018, and it has been an amazing journey watching her business grow since then.
How did Linen Lane begin?
The chance discovery of one of the last working linen mills in Northern Ireland led to the creation of Linen Lane. "I had a long career in interiors and textiles previous to starting creating products, mostly making blinds, curtains and home textiles. My grandfathers both grew flax and its something I can't get away from. Irish linen which is one of the most eco friendly fabrics available and sustainability is something I'm very passionate about."
Using this high quality, locally woven Irish linen and a variety of techniques, Jill creates lampshades, cushions and smaller pieces. In the last few years Jill started creating larger lighting pieces, and it’s no surprise that they’ve been a huge success since then. She recently completed a huge hotel commission that we are excited to publicise later in the year when the hotel opens!
"Revamp Your Lamp"
Following on the focus of sustainability Jill offers a revamp service where customers can bring in a lamp that has grown a little outdated, or was maybe inherited and she offers to bring it back to life with a linen shade. This service is incredibly popular with many happy clients.
We adore having Jill here at the Designerie, and love seeing what new lamps she designs and creates.
