Salmon & Whiskey Festival 2024
Experience Tradition at the Salmon and Whiskey Festival in Bushmills: A Celebration of Craftsmanship
Bushmills, renowned for its world-class whiskey and scenic landscapes, will once again host the much-anticipated Salmon and Whiskey Festival this year. But there’s more to this festival than fine spirits and delectable salmon – it’s also an immersive celebration of traditional Irish craftsmanship. During this year's festival, we will showcase a celebration of traditional crafts, which brings to life the rich legacy of artisanal skills passed down through generations.
From Nature to Creation: A Journey Through Traditional Craft
At the heart of this iconic celebration of craft and all things local, is a deep connection between Ireland’s natural resources and its time-honoured crafts.
Both visitors and locals will have the chance to witness artisans transforming raw, natural materials into stunning works of art. These crafts are more than objects; they’re living pieces of traditional history and culture, created by skilled makers who have honed their abilities over many years.
The Makers of Makers House: A Showcase of Talent
Our Makers House will be open to the public, where all are welcome to come and watch an extraordinary variety of handmade works being made. This exhibition brings together skilled artisans working with materials like wood, leather, flax, wool, precious metals, and gemstones, providing a unique opportunity to see how each material is carefully shaped and crafted into beautiful, functional items.
Expect to find everything from handcrafted furniture and bespoke jewellery to woollen textiles and intricate leather goods!
Makers House will also feature stunning depictions of the local landscape through the lenses of art and photography by local photographer Laura McIlveen, offering festival-goers a deeper sense of connection to the natural beauty of Bushmills and its surroundings.
Spotlight on Young Talent: Caitlin McCracken
A special highlight of this year's festival will be a pop-up exhibition by Caitlin McCracken, a young designer who will demonstrate the art of machine knitting using Donegal Wool. Her innovative take on traditional techniques showcases the evolving nature of traditional craftsmanship, blending heritage materials with contemporary design to create fresh and exciting work.
Visitors will have the chance to watch Caitlin in action and gain insight into the process behind her beautifully textured creations.
