About us

Welcome to The Designerie! We are a social enterprise and non-profit business proudly supporting over 100 creatives from across Northern Ireland and Ireland.

Located at 88 Main Street, Bushmills - We are a shop, creative hub, workshop and community destination, selling handmade products from Northern Ireland and Ireland.

We want everyone who visits to feel part of the experience, so you can always expect just that when you call in to see us. Whether it’s the feeling you get when you "purchase with purpose" and support local, the creative atmosphere you walk into or the various workshops available.

Why not have a go at trying a new skill for yourself yourself.

Founded by Enterprise Causeway in 2015, the core aim at The Designerie is to grow the creative industry and promote creativity within the community, using it to build relationships and connect people.

The idea for The Designerie was born during Christmas 2014, when Enterprise Causeway teamed up with local artists and crafters to make Christmas Trees out of recycled pallets at our industrial estate. We set up a workshop in one of our units at Enterprise Causeway and opened a pop up shop in The Diamond Centre in Coleraine.
The heart of The Designerie has always been to create a space where people from various social and cultural backgrounds, with different interests, and of all ages can come together to be creative, make new connections and feel inspired. We have delivered this under our support for business and support for community.

Social Enterprise of the Year 2022 (Social Enterprise Northern Ireland Awards 2022)
Social Enterprise of the Year 2021 (Causeway Coast & Glens)

What is a social enterprise,  you may ask?

A social enterprise is a type of organisation that combines the principles of business with a social or environmental mission.  As a social enterprise we are non profit charity - we pay our staff and bills and then reinvest any money made back into growing the business.

The Designerie shop's retail space is stocked by over 100 small businesses from Northern Ireland and Ireland - we know our suppliers personally and celebrate with them when they have a particularly good sale!

Our goal is to support individuals to be part of community through connected creativity. We love being able to support local business in this way and are open to taking on new product from talented makers.

Recently we were so excited to receive a Highly Commended Prize in Digital Marketing at the Social Enterprise Awards. We were so pleased that Enterprise Causeway won Social Enterprise of the Year, and our CEO Jayne Taggart won Leader of the Year, for all the work she puts into growing creative industries. This award is a testament to the hard work of our staff team, the creativity of our makers and the support of our loyal customers.

Our team is here to welcome and help customers in the shop from Monday – Saturday 10am – 5pm, and they would love to see you if you call in.

The ethos of The Designerie is to provide a one-stop location where you can grow your own creative skills in a nurturing environment, whilst also supporting the local arts and crafts industry in Northern Ireland.
We offer workshops and provide an innovative space for children, adults or groups in our local communities. This allows people the chance to learn & develop new skills in contemporary crafts, using re-purposed and locally available materials.
We want to show you how you can turn something old and unloved into something beautiful and treasured, and we want to help you to save money on gifts and home furnishings, by teaching you how to make them yourself.
