As Meara tries to work out where the water has gone, Grandad offers up increasingly imaginative explanations involving mermaids, narwhals and giants. But perhaps the truth is even more wonderful than the stories.

What makes this book particularly special for u, is its local connection. Author and illustrator Paddy Donnelly grew up in Ballycastle, and the story was inspired by Loughareema, the real vanishing lake just outside the town.
