Celebrating The Resident Designers Of Makers House

Celebrating The Resident Designers Of Makers House

Born out of a vision to create a unique and creative space to support local creative entrepreneurs and help develop new creative skills, Makers House was opened in 2018.

Connection has always been at the core of the Designerie’s purpose, bringing artists and the community together to create beautiful things and learn new skills.

The Studio has come a long way in the past 3 years. Now it delivers a creative hub where like-minded designer makers collaborate together to make, market, educate, support and build a strong vibrant creative sector on the Causeway Coast.

To say a big happy birthday, and celebrate the extraordinary contribution of our resident makers we wanted to showcase their products and thank our customers for how wonderfully supportive they’ve been to us.

Fee McToal Designs

Award-winning milliner and designer Fee McToal has sewn from a very young age. She studied sewing, fashion & design, returning some years later to fashion in the form of hat making. She designs and creates headpieces for weddings and race days and also for everyday wear.

Her work is truly unique with no two headpieces are ever the same. You can purchase her work in her retail space upstairs in Makers House, or you can book a commission appointment or see her products online www.feemctoalmillinery.com

Laura McIlveen Photography

Laura loves to capture colour and the movement of water in her work, creating a bold piece of art that brightens up a space and becomes a real feature in someone’s home or workspace.

With her photography she likes to evoke an emotion, make someone smile or to bring them back to their own happy place.

She loves to hear people’s own stories behind the locations she captures, so if you are in the area, come and say hi.

You can see Laura’s beautiful work upstairs in Makers House or on her website. She can  also do bespoke orders, including large framed made-to-order pieces.

Linen Lane

Jill Gurney has had a long career in interiors and textiles and has strong family links to linen as both her grandfathers grew flax. The chance discovery of one of the last working linen mills in Northern Ireland led to the creation of Linen Lane.

Using high quality Irish linen, one of the most sustainable, eco friendly fabrics available, and a variety of techniques Jill creates lampshades and textile gifts.

Jill offers a ‘Revamp Your Lamp’ service in her studio, where she can revamp any pieces with sentimental value. Call into Makers House to discuss making something special for you or your home.

Susan Francesca Hunter

Susan designs and makes a range of high fired stoneware ceramics. Her colourful functional pottery combines her love for colour and simplicity.

Not only does she work with ceramics, Susan also works in other media, such as paper, sketching in print and paint and in fused glass.

Visit her pod in Makers House for a chance to meet her and browse her range of mugs, jugs, bowls and more.
